Program Overview
Design thinking is the core methodology to approach social entrepreneurship, and it has been recognized as one of the most creative and effective tools to address innovation in the modern world. Particularly for non-designers, it provides a new way of looking at problems as well as a systematical approach to developing creative solutions that can be applied in a vast range of topics and disciplines.
The Design Thinking and Social Entrepreneurship program is powered by DKU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative. The program aims to inspire and equip young talents to become change makers through the framework of design thinking to address the complex social issues involving culture, environment, humans, and business.

Application Requirements and Fees
Requirements:
1. College students who are interested in design thinking, sustainability, social innovation, culture study, and entrepreneurship.
2. Official transcript of language test scores (CET 4/CET 6/ IELTS/TOEFL/Duolingo or English course final exam score) is required for non-native English speakers. TOEFL (80 and above) or IELTS (6.5 and above) is preferred.
3. Excellent academic performance, minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0; etc.
Tuition Fee:
3750 RMB/person
10% discount for early decisions, also 10%-off for a two-person discount!
Scholarship:
The top 20% of the students will be eligible for a scholarship of up to 1000RMB after the program ends.

Lecturer on Design and Innovation
As the Associate Director for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Duke Kunshan University, Dr. Liqi Ren leads the development of the innovative and entrepreneurial culture across campus by initiating and strengthening various programs, topics, and resources. Dr. Ren also serves as a faculty on Design and Innovation with teaching and developing pedagogy around the themes of creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. She is specialized in using design thinking as a trans-disciplinary method to drive innovation, creative expression, and entrepreneurial success. She received Ph. D degree in Design from Arizona State University in 2018. Her research focuses on the culture and creative industry, design innovation, and entrepreneurship in contemporary China.

Christian is the founder and CEO of USDC, Urban Society Design Consultancy, Shanghai, China, a consultancy that helps change society through human-centred design, Design Thinking/Service Design, Speculative Design and Digital Transformation. After a career of over 20 years in communication, PR and HR Strategy at the HQ’s of Daimler, Siemens and Adidas, Christian is now teaching Innovation & Design Thinking for Digital Entrepreneurship at the Alibaba Business School, further developing their curriculum and driving their global growth and partnership strategy in countries abroad, and at the Jiao Tong University Shanghai at their the Global Elite of Business Administration (EBA) Global EBA program.

Dr. von Windheim is a Duke Professor and technology entrepreneur who focuses on early-stage innovations in the physical sciences. He was a co-founder of Cronos Integrated Microsystems (acquired by JDS Uniphase) and CEO and founder of Nextreme Thermal Solutions (acquired by Laird Technologies). As a Professor of the Practice in Entrepreneurship at Duke University’s School of the Environment, Dr. von Windheim works with faculty and students to identify, fund and commercialize early-stage technologies for medical, environmental and industrial applications. He is CEO of a Duke spin out, Tyrata, Inc., a sensor development and data management company offering wireless sensors and systems that monitor and report on vehicular tire treadwear in real-time to improve safety, performance, efficiency and profitability.
