Xinchejian is the first makerspace in China, where there is an idea box that allows makers to jot down their innovative thoughts and deposit them.

Some of the ideas can be successfully implemented and receive abundant resources, growing into larger enterprises. But unfortunately, the rest of the ideas will be discarded and turned into wasted paper. As young makers in the process of generating ideas, how can we come up with ideas that are worth developing? How can we turn ideas into prototypes? How can we mobilize networking and financial resources to realize our ideas?

In this ESS, we are honored to invite Tianyi Zhang, Changbai Li, Leyis, and Hao Rong to talk about how to bring your ideas to life by leveraging tools in creative ways and how hackerspaces like Xinchejian provide the incubating environment and nurturing community for ideas to be realized. Get ready to hack your ideas into reality!

Tianyi Zhang is a hardware maker, founder of WEARHAUS Shared Headphones, founder of ALTAR Artificial Intelligence Hardware, and founder of Berkeley Supernode Makerspace. In 2013, while studying at the University of Berkeley in the United States, he won the Thiel Scholarship for his 3D printer. In 2014, he was selected for the list of Forbes “China’s 30 Entrepreneurs Under 30”.

Changbai Li is a music maker at Xinchejian and the co-founder of ALTAR Artificial Intelligence Hardware. He is not only a cross-border programmer but also an artificial intelligence risk researcher.

Leyis is a member of the Helicopter Simulator Project and the manager of the Helicopter Club. In her daily life, she is a fan of realistic models and has also worked as a graphic designer for a long time.

Hao Rong is a maker, management engineer of System Integration Project, full stack engineer, and founder of Shadow Theater immersive murder mystery game. He graduated from Fudan University with a master’s degree in tourism management. He is mainly engaged in the research and development of the Internet and multimedia exhibition and interactive devices.

Nowadays, makerspaces are all around the world. They all utilize physical spaces to operate in a community-based way, creating a platform for everyone to delve into technology, collaborate in teams, participate in international competitions, and discover new opportunities. Every makerspace adheres to the same aspiration – to let makers perceive joyness in creation.

Xinchejian is not only a makerspace but also a non-profit organization. As the first makerspace in China, Xinchejian is committed to supporting, creating, and promoting physical computing, open-source hardware, and the Internet of Things. It hopes to raise awareness of makerspace and promote the culture of makers across China. To achieve this goal, Xinchejian actively organizes lectures, seminars, workshops, and competitions regarding related fields. In addition to building a maker environment domestically, Xinchejie also actively participates in various international competitions to enhance its international impacts.
