Program Overview
Design thinking is the core methodology of this program that has been recognized as one of the most creative and effective tools to address innovation in the modern world. Particularly for non-designers, it provides a new way of looking at problems as well as a systematical approach to developing creative solutions that can be applied to a vast range of topics and disciplines. This program will provide an immersive experience of design thinking from emphasizing, defining, ideating, prototyping, and testing.
Design Thinking and Social Entrepreneurship Summer Program is powered by DKU Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative. It provides a project-based learning experience connecting the classroom to the real world and leverages students’ creative problem-solving capabilities, interdisciplinary thinking, and entrepreneurial mindset. The program aims to inspire and equip young talents to become change makers through the framework of social entrepreneurship, which addresses the complex social issues involving culture, environment, humans, and business.

Application Requirements and Fees
Target Groups:
Undergraduate students who:
1. are interested in design thinking, suitability, social innovation, culture study and entrepreneurship;
2. have a strong interest in social innovation and entrepreneurship, design thinking, cultural studies, and other related fields;
3. achieve excellent academic performance, minimum GPA 3.0/4.0.
Language Requirements:
Good English proficiency is required for non-native English speakers, TOEFL (80) or IELTS (6.5) is preferred;
*Online interviews will be required for those without TOEFL or IELTS scores.
Pricing: 7500 RMB/person
1. 10% early-bird discount for early decisions (6750 RMB/person);
2. 10%-off for a two-person discount (6750 RMB/person).

Associate Director for Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative
Duke Kunshan University
As the Associate Director for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Duke Kunshan University, Dr. Liqi Ren leads the development of an innovative and entrepreneurial culture across campus by initiating and strengthening various programs, topics, and resources. Dr. Ren also serves as a faculty on Design and Innovation teaching and developing pedagogy around the themes of creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. She is specialized in using design thinking as a trans-disciplinary method to drive innovation, creative expression, and entrepreneurial success. She received Ph.D. degree in Design from Arizona State University in 2018. Her research focuses on the culture and creative industry, design innovation, and entrepreneurship in contemporary China.
Fang Li D.Eng.
Assistant Director for DKU Innovation Incubator

Fang Li has over 20 years of experience working in design-related fields, as well as a complex knowledge structure covering a wide range of fields including design, information technology, and economic management. Since joining Duke Kunshan University, in addition to guiding students’ innovation and entrepreneurship projects, his research interests focuses on sustainable practices of inclusive design, the application, and translation of emerging technologies to enable inclusive design, and innovation in design theory and methods. Having extended the application area of inclusive design originally studied with the elderly and disabled, he constructed design theories and methods for more diverse target user groups in business and competitive environments and effectively experimented with these theories for design practice through specific research projects.
