Abstract
Optimal resource management has long been a central aspect of strategy games. Meanwhile, the past decade has seen a growing trend of integrating environmental conservation themes into games. This proposed topic seeks to investigate the specific features within game designs that have the potential to effectively promote environmental awareness among players. Additionally, it aims to assess the alignment of these game designs with the latest scientific understanding of various environmental issues. Lastly, the proposal endeavors to design a game that not only holds business value but also functions as an educational platform for environmental studies. This interdisciplinary exploration requires creative collaboration among students specializing in environmental science and policy, computational sciences, and media and arts.
Objectives of the proposed topic
The proposed topic has three main objectives:
(1) To analyze and evaluate the trend of incorporating environmental conservation themes into games, considering both the educational and business perspectives;
(2) To explore the full educational potential of gaming within the field of environmental studies;
(3) To experiment with designing gaming products that not only possess educational value but also hold business prospect.
Expected outcomes of the proposed topic
There are two expected outcomes of the proposed topic.
First, we expect to deliver a report that presents our findings and insights regarding environmental conservation elements in gaming products and their educational and business prospect. We aim to publish the report on a credible and influential platform.
Second, we expect to design a game that aligns with our vision of what a successful game could resemble. We will introduce the game to the market for testing and evaluation.
Evaluation criteria for the proposed topic
Both expected outcomes of the proposed topic are deliverables, so this project can be evaluated based on their degree of completion and quality. Furthermore, the report can be assessed by considering its publication platform, and the game can be evaluated based on its market performance.
