In today’s evolving digital landscape, this study explores the changing roles of Chief Information Officers (CIO), Chief Technology Officers (CTO), and Chief Digital Officers (CDO) in shaping digital strategies and corporate purpose, along with their collaboration dynamics with Chief Human Resources Officers (CHRO). The primary aim of this study is to identify the challenges, successes, responsibilities, and obligations of these Digital CxOs in shaping digital native strategy paradigms and evolving corporate purpose.

Digital Economy & Digital Transformation
Effective digital transformations are characterized by significant enhancements of digital skills and human capital, and structural changes to strategy. Network and learning effects are at the core of the digital economy and leveraging them is now essential.
Chief Information Officer (CIO)
C-suite CIOs are more effective. Transformational leadership style is preferred to transactional one. Evolution of the CIO role: technical manager -> general manager – > executive top management team; from supply-side to demand-side.
New responsibilities: IT standardization and integration; organizational strategy. From an IT service provider to a business integrator.
Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
The Chief Technology Officer is the tech guru of an organization, blending deep technical expertise with the ability to collaborate effectively. In practical business scenarios, certain technology management executives may undertake CTO responsibilities, whether in part or entirely, despite lacking the official CTO title, hence they are often referred to as “Hidden CTOs. ” 94% of Chinese businesses identified their company as “not ahead of the curve” regarding impending mega trends.
Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO)
CHRO are required figures to balance the implementation of technologies with the demands of the population. There is an increasing need for cooperation between CxOs, the CHRO and the HR department.
Main challenges for CHROs include: Diversity and Inclusion + Technology, Hard skills demand , soft skills demand within technological transformations. Compliance cases handling & ethics of organizations with digital instruments.

The project will continue throughout the Spring 2024 semester through 3 principal work streams:
- Finishing Literature Review
- Conducting C-SUITE level interviews
- Extrapolate the research into a visual presentation with key recommendations and a comprehensive written report
