Driving the Data: The Emerging Role of Chief Digital Officer
The World Economic Forum is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic, and other leaders of society to shape global, regional, and industry agendas. Chief Digital Officers (CDOs) have emerged as a valuable role in the past decade. However, many organizations in China still face the dilemma of not being capable of managing their data systematically and strategically due to the lack of knowledge of this role. To gain a comprehensive understanding of the role of CDO, the team conducted an extensive literature review and case study, exploring its definition, history, and importance. By comparing CDOs with similar roles like CIOs and CTOs, the members identified key differences and the unique significance of the CDO role. Additionally, they reviewed job descriptions on platforms like Boss and LinkedIn to determine the general requirements and common skills expected of CDOs. To foster digital inclusion, the team offered practical suggestions for businesses to enhance their practices. Furthermore, their research outlined the future development of CDOs and how companies can effectively leverage this role to drive digital transformation.
