The Framing Focus

“The Third World” is a poetic short film exploring the timeless questions “Where do I come from? Who am I? Where am I going?” In a society dominated by spectacle, the film traces a visual journey from the “first nature” to the “second” and ultimately the “third” nature. Through the intertwined stories of Xiao Fang, who flees the city with unresolved trauma, and Ning Hui, a grieving rural mother, the film uses long takes, nonlinear structure, and quiet rural landscapes to merge memory, dream, and reality. Aimed at international festivals, the project invites viewers to reconsider nature, identity, and personal destiny.
