
Project Summary
HeritageAR: The Lens of Hue is an augmented reality (AR) application for tourists to explore The Imperial City of Hue – a historical heritage in Vietnam. Users can immersively experience life here during the Nguyen dynasty, interact with AR characters, and personalize their exploration of the historical site. We aim to improve tourists’ experiences, inspire people to explore history and cultures actively, and ultimately contribute to preserving cultural heritage.
HeritageAR is a two-year Innovation Incubator (innovation incubator) support project of Duke Kunshan University. It has participated in the 2023 Spring Dachuang Program competition and is an entrepreneurial training project for college students’ innovation and entrepreneurship declared by Duke Kunshan University.
The project is actively searching for talented and passionate people dedicated to conserving and developing Vietnamese culture who want to enhance the tourism experience for visitors exploring heritage sites, to help us create this exciting heritage game.
Recruitment Information
1. Number of Recruits: 2.
2. Recruitment Demand:
(1) Ability to filter information, find reliable data sources, research, and analyze data.
(2) Experience in R&D and project management (especially in tourism, services, cultures, product development, or application development)
(3) Staying updated on industry trends, market shifts, and competitors’ activities to inform strategic decision-making.
(4) Major in Economics, Business, or a related field.
(5) Have networking skills, strict time management, good resources management, and leadership ability to help lead the team members.
(6) Have ambition in entrepreneurship and be willing to put time and effort into building a start-up.
3. Relevant Specific Responsibility:
(1) Set the development direction of the project, help manage, and lead the team members.
(2) Networking with key industry players, partners, and stakeholders to foster collaboration and create new business opportunities.
(3) Identify the project’s potential for development, challenges, and opportunities.
(4) Conduct market research, competitor analysis, and stakeholder analysis.
(5) Develop and implement business development strategies.
(6) Pitch and present the project to communicate the project’s value proposition and offer to potential clients or partners.

(4) Major in Computer Science, Computational Design, Software Engineering, or a related field.
(5) Knowledge and expertise in programming languages, software development methodologies, and architectural patterns.
(6) Interested in Game Development, Augmented Reality technology. Having experience in these fields is a huge advantage. However, a willingness to explore and learn is essential.
3. Relevant Specific Responsibility:
(1) Set the development direction of the project, help manage, and lead the team members.
(2) Networking with key industry players, partners, and stakeholders to foster collaboration and create new business opportunities.
(3) Design the overall structure of a software system.
(4) Choose the appropriate technologies, programming languages, frameworks, and tools to build the software system.
(5) Identify potential risks in the software design, data management, and intellectual property.

(1) Major in Arts History, History, Archaeology, Literature, or a related field.
(2) Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex historical information into compelling narratives.
(3) Attention to detail and a commitment to historical accuracy and authenticity.
(4) Familiarity with digital content creation and storytelling techniques.
(5) Experience in conducting archival research and working with primary sources.
(6)Passion for history, and cultural heritage and the ability to convey that passion to a diverse audience.
(7) Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently while adhering to project timelines.
(8) Proficiency in Vietnamese is a huge advantage.
3. Relevant Specific Responsibility:
(1) Conduct in-depth research on The Imperial City of Hue, including its significance, events, and cultural context during the 19th century
(2) Gather and analyze historical data, photographs, and primary sources to ensure the accuracy and authenticity of the content.
(3) Categorizing the research’s results for project uses, tracking citations, and metadata.
(4) Develop captivating and informative narratives that bring the historical sites to life, considering the target audience and the app’s objectives.
(5) Collaborate with the development team to integrate the researched content into the AR app, ensuring a seamless and immersive experience.

(2) Confident, communicative, and capable of leading good and helpful conversations with strangers, exhibiting good verbal skills.

(4) Data analysis skills are advantageous.
3. Relevant Specific Responsibility:
(1) Conduct surveys, interviews, and research on visitors’ experience to Hue Imperial City, and study user interactions with the project’s experimental products.
(2) Collect information relevant to potential customers and the market, and write reports analyzing user behavior.
(3) Recruit participants for research activities.
(4) Plan user experience research.
(5) Develop interview question content to ensure smooth and comprehensive interviews, maximizing the understanding of visitors’ experiences.
(6) Analyze collected data to develop related outcomes (user personas, user journeys, empathy mapping, etc.) to define the target audience.

(1) Knowledge, experience in game development, and a passion for game creation.
(2) Interest in exploring Vietnamese culture, particularly in the historical culture of the Nguyen dynasty’s imperial court.

3. Relevant Specific Responsibility:
(1) Develop game mechanics, systems, storylines, missions, challenges, and stimulating elements to create captivating and unique gaming experiences.
(2) Create game description documents, including detailed gameplay descriptions, control systems, and rules.
(3) Contribute ideas to design and build gameplay models, from initial sketches to detailed designs.
(4) Collaborate closely with other teams to develop, deploy, and test games.
(5) Adjust and refine game design elements based on player feedback and input from various relevant groups to improve the game.
(6) Investigate and research gaming trends, the market, and innovative approaches to develop distinctive and outstanding games.

(1) Knowledge and experience using AR development tools such as ARKit, ARCore, Unity, or similar.
(2) Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
(3) Familiarity with app development and experience with the iOS platform.
(4) Proficiency in programming languages such as C#, C++, or JavaScript.
3. Relevant Specific Responsibility:
(1) Research issues related to Augmented Reality technology and propose solutions.
(2) Design and develop AR applications that integrate virtual content with the real-world environment.
(3) Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including historical researchers, game artists, game designers, and UI/UX designers, to conceptualize and implement AR features and functionalities.
(4) Integrate 3D models, animations, and audio content into the AR application, ensuring seamless and effective interactions.

* In the initial stages of the project, game artists will collaborate with the historical research team to study historical knowledge related to their specialized tasks.
