This project intends to use biological control methods to solve the problem of freshwater cyanobacteria blooms. The bloom phenomenon is caused by the explosive proliferation of cyanobacteria and other dominant plankton species in the water body, which directly threatens the normal survival of the animals in the water body and causes huge economic losses to the aquaculture industry. Among them, cyanobacteria toxins also cause major harm to the health of residents who depend on water bodies. Different from the traditional prevention and treatment methods of directly injecting drugs into water bodies, this project uses gene-edited Escherichia coli to produce cyanobacteria that are specifically designed to kill cyanobacteria and have low environmental hazards. The self-designed floating unit is used for precise drug delivery on the surface of blooms. It will slowly release the drugs, so as to eliminate blooms in a long-term and targeted manner.
