Program Overview
When structure is no longer just support, when motion becomes part of the artwork, and when a system itself gains aesthetic and expressive power — dynamic installation art moves beyond mere assemblage of forms to become a comprehensive creative practice about structure, movement, and system-based aesthetics.
This Winter–Spring semester, Innovation Lab proudly presents the second installment of the Makers On-Site: Co-Create Series, “From Mechanical Structure to Dynamic Installation Art.” We invite DKU students who are curious about creative practice, technology, and spatial expression to join a complete, hands-on, project-driven experimental journey in dynamic installation art. Starting with the fundamentals of structural understanding, you will go through the full design and creation process of Kinetic Installation Art, and personally complete a dynamic, interactive installation piece.
Whether you come from art, design, engineering, computer science — or have never had any prior exposure to related fields —
everyone who is curious about “creating” is welcome here.
What You Will Gain ✨
1. From Structure to Motion: Create Dynamic Installations with Systems Thinking
Learn how installations work — not just how they look beautiful. Starting from mechanical structures and motion logic, you’ll understand how to integrate structural design, motion mechanisms, and overall system behavior to complete a dynamic installation with clear logic and expressive power.
2. Full Practice Path: Digital Fabrication × Interactive Systems
Through real creative needs, you’ll systematically master essential technologies such as AIGC-assisted ideation, 3D modeling, 3D printing and laser cutting, basic circuitry, and interactive systems, transforming abstract concepts into functioning, tangible artworks.
3. Deep Co-Creation and Showcase Opportunity
You will complete an installation piece individually or in a small team that can be exhibited and included in your portfolio. Outstanding works may be featured as long-term installations in the brand new Innovation Hub space, allowing your creation to be seen and discussed on campus.
Join Us! 🚀
This is a chance to slow down, dive into creation, and truly complete a work of your own. It’s also a shift from learning tools to expressing yourself through making.
If you want to make structures move, give your creation life, and see your ideas come fully to life —
