For this ESS, we invited three senior VC analysts/managers from Orbit Startup to provide unique insights on fundraising for early-stage entrepreneurs.

Gabriella Liu is a senior investment analyst at Orbit Startups, backed by the the active global venture capital SOSV. She started her career as a software engineer at Vivint. Prior to Orbit Startups, she also gained experience in social enterprises, VR MedTech and early-to-growth stage investing.

Gabriella holds a BA in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science from Wellesley College. In her free time, Gabriella spends a lot of time cycling, fencing, or indulging herself in the great outdoors. She is also a wannabe musician and has experience producing music and a podcast series.

Hiruy is a senior investment associate at Orbit Startups. His responsibilities include portfolio management and deal sourcing.

Prior to Orbit Startups, Hiruy was the Program Manager for Angelvest Group in Shanghai, a network of angel investors primarily based in Asia. As the Program Manager, Hiruy was responsible for deal sourcing, research, member relations and marketing. Before Angelvest, Hiruy had multiple internships abroad from Coca-Cola Sabco in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to Beijing Niu Technologies in Beijing. In his free time, he enjoys performing stand-up comedy at various locations in Shanghai and trying out new social activities around the city.

Hiruy received his Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College in International Politics and Economics—a joint-degree program focusing on politics and economics with an international focus and language concentration in Mandarin.

Steven Miao is an investment manager at Orbit Startups. At Orbit Startups, Steven focuses on investing in Orbit Startups early-stage TMT & Fintech startups in emerging markets. Steven invests in and currently manages portfolios including Insta World (Pakistan’s one-stop solution supply chain platform), Morfyus (Web3.0 virtual workforce platform in Asia), and EasyAspataal (India fintech solution for SME hospitals).

Prior to Orbit Startups, Steven started his career as a Financial Analyst & Business Insight at Apple and was deeply engaged in various innovation projects cross-boundary. He also had several work experiences in ICAEW and as an auditor & financial due diligence of M&A projects for SOEs in Mainland of China and Hong Kong (SAR) in well-known CPA firms.

Steven is a Certified Management Accountant, Tableau Certified Associate, Project Management Professional and Teradata Business User. He also holds an MSc in Professional Accounting from Liverpool University.
