iGEM 2024: Developing a Tampon Prototype that Prevents Toxic Shock Syndrome
Team Name: DKU iGEM 2024
This project aims to reduce the probability of TSS in women by introducing microorganisms that inhibit Staphylococcus aureus on cotton strips. The methods used to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus include increasing the expression of hydrogen peroxide and nisin in Lactobacillus salivarius to inhibit the bacteria. The main methods include using plasmids to introduce NADH-dependent flavin reductase to increase hydrogen peroxide production and replacing nisR promoters to achieve the effect of overexpression to increase nisin production.
