This project proposes a prototype small-scale acoustic theatre for Kunqu in the Jiangnan region. Kunqu relies on subtle vocal expression, acoustic clarity, and close performer-audience proximity, yet many current venues are oversized and designed mainly for amplified performance. Through literature review, fieldwork, case studies, and design development, the project aims to create a feasible and scalable model for unamplified Kunqu performance. The final outcome will include a theatre design proposal and an investment-oriented pitch to support the long-term preservation, transmission, and contemporary presentation of Kunqu.
