The Trajectory of Quantum Computation in China
The World Economic Forum is an independent international organization committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic, and other leaders of society to shape global, regional, and industry agendas. Quantum computing has reached an inflection point, and while general-purpose quantum computing is yet to be fully proven, it is crucial for society to support the current endeavors for the technology to fulfill its transformative potential. To investigate the current forum workstreams and future expansion plans of global quantum computing networks in Greater China, the team collected and analyzed information from academic literature, conference papers, online news, and articles from official public platforms to map out leading stakeholders and future potential interest of the public-private dialogue. Based on their findings, they concluded that China is swiftly emerging as the global leader in Quantum Communications and Security. Despite challenges such as high costs and slow hardware development, increased investment by companies in this area is crucial. Collaboration among these stakeholders has been limited, and considering China’s national interest in Quantum Communication, enhanced investment, and cooperation are imperative for the companies’ growth.
